Nepal Secondary Education Project Successfully Concludes
At the end of October 2008 the ADB funded Secondary Education Support Project was signed off by PINZ as lead firm, with our Kathmandu-based consulting partner firm METCON Consultants and headed by our Team Leader Dr. Kedar N. Shrestha.

Over the course of the 19 month project, PINZ’s specialist team, along with the METCON team, worked with different government bodies and education institutions including the National Centre for Educational Development (NCED http://www.nced.gov.np/), Curriculum Development Centre and Tribhuvan University. The focus was on workshops and discussions to review the district level teacher training curriculum. Our team worked alongside the NCED and DoE to develop and refine the pre-service and in-service teacher training curriculum; and reform the teacher licensing system.
Throughout the country PINZ held a series of workshops to support resource developers in assessing existing resources where new print and audiovisual training materials for open/distance teacher training resources were also developed. The SESP developed a policy paper for the establishment of student assessment units (SAU), at central agencies, and creating a foundation for future capacity building around secondary assessment practice.

The final project activity was a PINZ-coordinated two-week study program to the Philippines (Manila) and Thailand (Bangkok). This gave Nepalese government personnel the opportunity to benchmark best practices and systems of teacher training and examination and assessment in these two countries.

Working with the Government of Nepal over the past 19 months has been rewarding in terms of partnership and successful in term of advancing education sector practices and systems of teacher training and examination and assessment.
