A key initiative to meet the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh’s aim to raise secondary education quality is the ADB/CIDA funded Teaching Quality Improvement in Secondary Education Project (TQI).
PINZ, in conjunction with lead firm Carl Bro of Denmark and several local firms is implementing the project, providing quality initial and in-service teacher training to all eligible teachers of grades 6-10 in Government and Non-Government secondary schools. Consultancy inputs for the five and a half year project started in March 2006. Since August 2006 PINZ has been responsible for five of the eight international consultant roles.
At the recent Mid-Term Review, attended by International Programme Director for PINZ, Brenda Lazelle, the series of review meetings highlighted that the project was proceeding very well, despite a number of factors, largely beyond the control of the project team slowing project outputs and the disbursement of project funds. A representative of the executing agency, the Ministry of Education, noted that TQI was the best performing of the 60 projects the Ministry was executing.
