After 18 months of planning and development the first 240 students of the Bahrain Polytechnic will walk through the doors on 14th September when programmes commence with English and Foundation studies, leading in 2009 into the Higher Diploma and Degree programmes in ICT, Business, Engineering Technology, Transport and Logistics and Office Administration . With a further 10 expatriate staff arriving at the beginning of August, staffing at the Polytechnic is now climbing past eighty, around 40% of whom are local Bahraini.
A team of Bahraini staff left temperatures in the mid forties for the NZ winter, to attend at the Christchurch and Northtec Polytechnics recently for a six week professional development programme. For most, when the opportunity to take a break from the work presented itself, it was their first experience of NZ, snow and kiwi hospitality and judging from the pictures seemed none the worse for wear.

In the early part of its development The Polytechnic is situated within the wider campus of the University of Bahrain and shares facilities including cafeteria, student health, library and recreational facilities.

Planning has already begun on the redevelopment and building of a new state of the art Polytechnic facility on the site as the University relocates to its main campus.
