PINZ Enters Central Asia for the First Time
With two deployments in July/August and November/December 2007, PINZ with lead firm ABU Consult Berlin GmbH, began work on the ADB funded Second Education Project in the Kyrgyz Republic. The project based in Bishkek, the capital of the former Soviet state, has six deployments spread over three years. It involves four PINZ consultants for a total of 37 person months working as part of a team of 7 international and 16 national consultants.

During each of the 6 deployments, the consultant team provides specially designed training programmes for teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum writers and assessment specialists from across the Kyrgyz. These workshops aim to provide participants with a thorough understanding of approaches and recent international innovations in curriculum development, learning assessment, and teacher training. The overall aim of the project is to assist the development of an education system that is responsive to the needs of a modern market economy and that delivers quality education into poorer areas.

The project has got off to a good start with PINZ consultants guiding the revision of grades 1 to 5 curricula in art, music, physical education, science, social studies as well as learning assessment. The next deployment is due in the second half of 2008 and will further develop curricula across grades 1 to 9.
