PINZ recently successfully completed a regional Pacific project with the New Zealand Police. The project involved the development and delivery of a Pacific Police Domestic Violence Adult Training Curriculum and training package to be used by Pacific police trainers as part of the Pacific Prevention of Domestic Violence Programme (PPDVP).
The PPDVP is an initiative of the NZAID, New Zealand Police (NZPOL) and the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police. The programme focuses primarily on building the capacity of Pacific Police services to prevent/respond effectively to Domestic Violence.
PPDVP will concentrates on supporting regional initiatives, policy development and training to improve regional performance in the domestic violence area and works intensively with four nations – Kiribati, Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands.
PINZ’ curriculum development project supported these initiatives by developing the training curriculum and accompanying Train-the-Trainer curriculum, and by delivering the Train-the-Trainer component to Pacific Police training staff. The training package was developed for delivery by local trainers in a Pacific context incorporating different resource needs. It is easily translatable into local languages for delivery by Pacific Police trainers.
The training package has been adapted, translated and delivered in the Cook Islands, Samoa, and Tuvalu with training scheduled for Tonga and Nauru.
