In late 2012, PINZ facilitated a study tour to New Zealand for FHEC senior management to provide insights into a mature system of higher education. The tour provided them with an opportunity to discuss lessons learnt and key issues that might contribute to the development of the higher education sector in Fiji.
The visit reflected the multi-faceted role of the FHEC in funding, strategic policy advice and initiatives, universities’ operation and their quality audit and training provision. The delegation was able to meet with government agencies, public and private tertiary education providers, and industry training bodies for fruitful discussion across the breadth of the New Zealand higher education and training system.
PINZ would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who gave so generously of their time and knowledge to the delegation.
“The visits and discussions held with key individuals and groups of various agencies enabled the team to obtain information and knowledge that were relevant to enable them to make comparisons and assessments that led to conclusions of how best ideas and practices encountered in New Zealand could be applied to the Fiji situation.” – member of FHEC delegation.
